The cost of home care

The Australian Government covers most of the cost for your home care, but you may be required to give out-of-pocket contributions depending on the services you have and your pension status. If you are a full pensioner, your maximum out-of-pocket cost is 17.5%.

An income and assets assessment determines the contribution an individual makes and varies based on their financial and personal circumstances. Services Australia calculates the cost with the income assessment form. Completing an income and assets assessment isn't mandatory. However, if you choose not to complete one, you can be asked to pay the maximum contribution rate. Please note that your contribution rate can change.

If you were assessed for aged care on or before 12 September 2024, then you are not required to pay contributions unless you were already doing so before Support at Home begun on 1 November 2025.
